Q: What’s the difference between hypnotherapy and relaxation?
A: Relaxation uses trance only. Hypnotherapy involves solution-focused hypnotherapy techniques as well as trance.
Q: What does trance feel like?
A: You actually go into a trance-like state several times a day. If you’ve ever arrived somewhere and thought “how did I get here?” you’ve most likely been in a trance. Even when you’re washing as part of a routine, that’s a trance-like state too. It’s also the same for those moments of intense concentration where you’ve found yourself “in the flow” – that’s a trance! It’s an entirely normal part of the human experience. In a hypnotherapy or relaxation session, you will feel relaxed, and you’ll be aware of what’s going on the whole time.
Q: Do I have to close my eyes?
A: You don’t have to. I will invite you to close your eyes when you’re ready, but you can still go into a trance with your eyes open.
Q: Will I lose control or say things I don’t want to?
A: Using trance as part of relaxation or hypnotherapy involves relaxing, breathing, and letting the words I say wash over you. You don’t need to say anything in a trance. I can’t make you do anything against your values or your wishes while in trance either.
Q: Can everyone be hypnotised?
A: Not everybody can, no, but most people can. There are certain conditions that relaxation/hypnotherapy won’t help either, but this will be discussed with you in your free initial consultation. Providing you are willing to follow simple instructions, there’s a strong chance you will be able to be inducted into a trance-like state.
Q: Do I have to visit you in person?
A: I offer all of my sessions virtually via Microsoft Teams or WhatsApp as well as in-person. Whichever is comfortable for you.
Q: Are the changes made during trance permanent?
A: The experience in a single trance won’t have a permanent effect. The key is consistency and commitment. If you can listen and be prepared to take some positive steps for your future benefit, then that’s where you’ll notice changes over a period of time. Trance allows access to the subconscious mind. Changing the subconscious mind can take a number of sessions.
Q: How many sessions will it take to make me feel better?
A: On average, it takes 8-12 hypnotherapy sessions. It can be less, but it can be more. You’ll be the judge of whether you’ve been able to reach the outcome you were after. Relaxation sessions don’t have a limit as they’re not designed to treat specific issues.
Q: Can you do a group relaxation session?
A: Yes – of course. For relaxation I charge for my time, not for how many people attend.
